Trains of Trainer of FETP Lab Curricula

Grand Tjokro Hotel, Yogyakarta, 4-6 December 2015

FETP students need to understand the basic principles and practices of laboratory components that support disease surveillance and outbreak investigation. Linkage of these essential parts would result in improved surveillance and outbreak response, better programmatic outcomes, and strengthened networks and health systems.

Even though FETP students and alumni are not laboratorians, however, they need to understand the pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic basics. This includes the basic concepts of laboratory management and policy, laboratory systems design and the principles of how to conduct and interpret isolation and subtyping of bacteria, serology, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods, and flow cytometry (for HIV).

As a preparation to start the lab curricula in the 2016, Trains of Trainer workshop of Lab Curricula has been conducted on December 2015 in Yogyakarta. This ToT was held for 3 days, which in 2 first days were discussing study cases and the last day was for teaching exercise.
